Zoning & Permitting Standing Item[edit]
Status this week? Helpful broad asks to the community? NB city bureaucracy WG -- JD & Alice, among others.
On the 17th hearing builders inspectors whatever. Reason is guys wer'ent communicating. They are living in hte 19th century. Not having the slide bags of money under the table anymore. The hearing is because the violation that goes back a couplle years that had to do with the first change of use permit which has since closed and we've opened a new change of use permit and is now a whole mess with the city. This was two days becfore the constractor pulled the job card and scheduled a hearing. Notice on the door threatening taking down the building. Been sending certifided mail to the landlord. TLDR we had our job card we had a building instructor came and inspected our wall and gavve advice for what eeds to change before passing. we don't have to pay for each inspection, just for uhh. That's that. JD will go to the hearing on hte 17th. We'll try our best to be complient and We'll do our best. Not worried but attentive. landlord has been trying to get in hear to look at something with a contractor, but the contractors truck got stollen. (Diana: ooo) Getting ready to install an allarm system. Each unit will have a alarm panel. might have to look into how to integrate that wth or current alarm sustem. Hopefully we can refuse it and just have it go to the other peart of the building. The alarm ught make automatic calls to he police nad could be very troublesome. Might need a kill switch. The landlord is on vacation.
Might harden the fire escape to prevent breakins. but most of the people who break in are our members and some of them even go into the roof.
We have a noisebrige story... drumrool please. *drumming* nvm Electrical, the electricial has 10 irons in the fire and they are squeeky
Worreid for the fasion show because if the fasion show is using alot of electircal things like steamers nad irons they might have issues with electrical. Hopefully we're not overloading a enxtension strip (again)
Narcisse, is going to bbuy lights and a dj. The ironing nad steaming, they'll be carefull about not overloading the lectrical.l The lights will all be off. All the things they narcisse will use, they will bring.
Would be helpful to share what thigngs narcisse is bringing. will send over the list.
What's going on in the seewing room. There are cords in a trupping hazard configuration. waiting till the new outlets are installed and skylight is instealled. NOt hard to coil the cables back.
Big C Consensus Items[edit]
Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items
nothing this week
Consensus Items [edit]
Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item or can be reserved for the discussion section of the meeting.
Discussion Items[edit]
It is recommended to post items for discussion ahead of time at https://pad.riseup.net/p/nbmeeting. (Check that the template for the meeting is in place already, and that last week's notes have been moved to the wiki, of course)
Item prompts should follow the format: From/Raised by: [your name here] Seeking [decision/outcome/advice/something else] On topic: [topic]
call for discussion topics[edit]
I accidently was writing notes in a different part of the document. here it is for reference: (that was a good spot -- it was pre-disucssion notes -- I even added a header for it. The notes will always be messy, so sequential helps later readers make sense. -- I'll keep all this as useful style reference for any who read it)
Sergio: The bike parking space indoors in the downstairs meeitng room. Looking for people to moove the cabinet behind the gamebridge space. To move out all ofthe things on the back wall of the 3d printing room and remove it. Cleaning out the space for more bike parking. He will be building the patio and so it's a good oportunity to clean out the space. There are alot of people that would use this. Don't move the 3d printers that are outside the 3d printer room into the 3d printer room. they are unwanted but are working.
Narcisse: Hristo: The electrical situation. Is looking for facts since the last time we've had an inspection to make sure that were up to code. This is the guy who found the faulty outlet. Savior of noisebridge Jullius: Removing the large format printer from the 3d printer room. There is a label that says waiting for parts, but that has been there a while. Elle: Also removing the vinal cutter from the 3d printer eroom. The stand is in the sunroo and there are 2 other parts in hte building and there is a desire to assemble the vinal cutter equipments together.
- Also adding more teachers to noisebridge.
Someone out of goodwill seemed to tru to ffix the outlet and they had a new faceplate and it seemed to fit but litely slipped nad shorted the outle and could have set the table on fire. It was sparking when you opened the cabel but yikes. Sacry. Don't mess with electrical yall.
Discussion Item 1[edit]
From/Raised by: Hristo Seeking On topic: Electrical situation fact finding. When is the last time we were inspected.
Last Friday was working in the metal closet. Plugging in one of the extension cords and the outlet started sparking. The issue was that there was a metal faceplate that was held on by friction.
We have an electrician who has been through and seen the space. He got us out of some hot water with the fire inspector who had a walkthrough that we didn't know about. The city was going to send down an electrical inspector to check things out. But our electrician was able to reach out and explain that he is working on making improvements.
He is going to come up with an estimate for the whole space. Including putting lights in the ceiling (hackitorium) and overhead extention cords. It will all be external conduit. Wireless light switches.
Jet - talking about wireless light switches, part of the noisebridge door bot is that it can automatically turn off lights when the space is closed.
Hristo - Is he also going to go over the existing outlets? Because they may not be up to code
Josh - We should do GFCI at the junction box
Elle - for sewing, we will have some heavy power needs. Not sure about 210 yet. We also need an outlet on the other side of the wall for the telephone booth, but also for sewing so we can have things on the other side plugged in. Top of the stairs on the left and right.
JD - 210 up to the 2nd floor could cost thousands extra. Laser, knitting machine, welder, and kiln are the things that need 210 currently. If we need a powerful machine like that someday we can figure it out then.
Elle - It took two years to get this electrician so it seems worth asking. The heat press for instance takes a lot of power.
JD - are you talking about the existing heat press?
Loren - To know the cost ahead of time, it seems appropriate to have some sort of breakout and have someone look over for each room. Hopefully we can get a few people involved, keep it limited.
Discussion Item 2[edit]
From/Raised by: Sergio Seeking On topic: The bike parking space in the hackitorium. Move the accessible sewing cabinet over to the gaming area and reomove what isn't usable. Opportunity tomorrow to get rid of stuff.
JD (on the printers) - those things were not solicited and there's no interest in them. I would like them to go away.
Sergio - as an extension, I remember that a few months ago we were talking about how to clean up the locker situation. And there is a storage issue with people leaving things.
For the accessible sewing cabinet, I recommend moving it behind the game cabinets.
Elle - that area seems difficult for someone in a wheelchair to get into
JD - Don't want to discourage cleaning up. It isn't currently accessible, this might help.
Elle - Every time we move it, it gets closer to collapse. If you open it up you can see that it's very sturdy when it has a stable backing and a level floor. But without that, it's just particle board. The other reason is that it's right on the accessible path where it is. Either it works or it doesnt, and it is moved, it may not be possible to move it back.
Sergio - the main point is the bike parking.
Elle - Strongly disagree. Carrying a lot of water for other folks who aren't here. I'm not interested in getting yelled at for these things.
Sergio - there are four different actions 1) 3d printer 2) bikes 3) cabinet 4) monitors 5) the rest of the junk
JD - what's up with the monitors?
Sergio - one of them should be with the accessible station, the others should be moved upstairs
JD - In terms of the way we operate with consensus, if someone isn't onboard we aren't going to do it.
Elle - can we put a rack up so people who want to lift their bikes can do that.
...
Elle - we are also going to be replacing the whole wall some time soon. So any solution
Sergio - I don't agree with a bike space outside because I know at least a few people who will not use it.
Elle - there are a lot of imaginative ways we can handle bike parking. We could even have a pully system where people can lift their bikes up to the ceiling. What we don't have is enough accessible sewing space.
JD - can we put the
Discussion Item 3[edit]
From/Raised by: Narcisse Seeking On topic: More discussion of the show
It will be free from 7pm - 8pm for all noisebridgers, then it will be a ticket event.
Going to come in and clean. I've been given the go ahead to put stuff in the wood shop temporarily. There is too much stuff that won't be possible to move/organize so we're going to get boxes and mark where everything came from and put it back afterwards
Elle - Ken is feeling a bit anxious about handling the money situation. So if there is anyone else who can help with that.
Narcisse - I thought this was resolved.
Elle - concerned about where the money is going. It looks like it is going directly to you (Narcisse)
JD - Don't think you were at this meeting, but we decided that the sponsor will have eyes on what the income generated is, so we can get the 10% promised. I wanted to do a flat rate, but this is how he is handling all his vendors so I think it makes sense. That will be Ken or Mark, or JD if necessary.
Narcisse - Having looked at this stuff a lot while cleaning up, there is a lot of stuff that hasn't moved in two years, and I think we should have a yard sale.
Elle - We do have a yard sale that was voted on. I will anounce.
Discussion Item 4[edit]
From/Raised by: Julius Seeking On topic: Removing the large format printer from the 3d print shop
I believe that Ruth bought replacement cartridges some time this year.
Discussion Item 5[edit]
From/Raised by: Elle Seeking On topic: Removing the vinyl cutter from the 3d print shop
It is in pieces but it works. The DTG printer is going to be moved soon, so the cutter can go back where it used to be. We have computers we can use. It's just an afternoon of tightening screws.
JD - I'll take on the vinyl cutter.
Discussion Item 6[edit]
From/Raised by: Elle Seeking On topic: Adding more teachers to noisebridge
We have been approached by three different folks interested in teaching in sewing. We have a person who is interested in casting in a jewelery kiln. But they are all students, so they are unable to work for free. So they want to know if they teach a class that charges money, can they take some portion of that. Some sewing classes take in hundreds of dollars. So suppose a class like that gives $50 to the teacher.
JD - thinking of ways to handle that on the paperwork side. Reimbursement for receipts? Don't want to set the precedent
Elle - one thing that was suggested was maybe the teachers at city college who could teach some of the higher end stuff that Ken and I don't want to touch.
Do-ocratic Task Board[edit]
Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!
