- One or two bullet points of high-level meeting summary.

Short announcements and events[edit]
-5 MoF is on Thursday at 8PM! Till 9PM Who is hosting?! That's a surprise. But Maybe its Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson!
Andrew - Not sure what event it will be for (valencia street fair or silent auction?)(Bearpadart) They're going to donate some art to us for one of the above!
Zack - laser is back in functioning order! Apparently someone cut some stuff that melted onto the tip and things got misaligned. Paolo fixed it and confirms it's working again.
Mark - Do the laser trainers know who did it? Can we rectifiy the behavior to prevent future misuse?
Zack - Asking around who did it, how it happened and will probably check in with them if they're around to find a way to avoid this happening again.
Mark - Suggesting that we take the convo to Discord
Side Announcement - Nicole is looking for a different dy of the week to potentially host a supplementary laser training regularly.
Mark - Maker Faire is happening from the 26th to the 28th. If you want to help out, I'm going to put a spreadsheet up. Put your availability in the spreadsheet. I want to make sure we have good coverage for the whole event.
Mark - Silent Auction may have been announced so RSVP to that. Luma, meetup, or wherever it is
Ron - Work in the security industry. We want to have more than one DEFCON per year. Tried to revive "DC 415" (sic?). Shooting for one event per month to get people together to talk security etc. Looking to see what would be a good time to do that so it doesn't step on people's toes.
Mark - explains next steps (check what other meetings are happening to avoid conflicts, create a wiki page, etc.)
Jet- been starting to brute force some hashes for tor3 domain. Wants the Noisebridge vanity domain.
Andrew - potentially have someone interested in aiding us with the coinbase issue we are dealing with. A company I contract with has people like this, who can act as a "fiduciary". I think we should put something together and talk to them about it.
Excellence[edit]
Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other. (Give a quick, 1-3 sentence summary.)
Party on and be cool. Follow the golden rule. If we all manage to do that, we will live in harmony and create excellent things.
If you're unsure, there are places on the wiki to find more info.
What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!
Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of Excellence[edit]
Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Anti-Harassment_Policy Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) More approachable & specific guidelines, https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Slack.
Brief Kudos[edit]
Recent examples of excellent participation, say 3, unless the passion moves you.
- Chris offered to bring Jet soup when they were sick!
- ChineseMan - for giving Andrew a drink when he was thirsty
- Zack - kudos to JD for respoding quickly to the laser situation and giving clear * direction on what to do , and for Paolo for getting the laser working quickly as well!
- To Deaddead (the drummer) for some excellent de-escalation.
- Ken, JD, and the woodshop wall team - working late at night to get it done
Zoning & Permitting Standing Item[edit]
Status this week? Helpful broad asks to the community? NB city bureaucracy WG -- JD & Alice, among others.
We've got more than 3 days, but I'm gonna be vague about exactly how much time... we've got enough time for what we need to do.
Ken needs to get stuff on the ceiling, then electrician needs to wire it all up, then the inspector needs to see it all going and running well. Then there are some other inspections - mechanical, fire, safety, and then the drywall, that guy signs off the last thing. We've got a couple weeks. A little time to hopefully respond to any little thing(s) that might show up
Matt is the general contractor who is helping with the high-level stuff.
r.e. the roof - we can probably get through the inspection without inspector going up on to the roof. But we are in the process of roof-work. Things are being 'flashed'. But we are looking for a new roofer currently bc issues with the last one.
Elon - has looked into local alternatives for the roofer. Got a quote that said it would be about $700 more ($1,800 vs. $2,500)
Big C Consensus Items[edit]
Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items
Consensus Items [edit]
Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item or can be reserved for the discussion section of the meeting.
Discussion Items[edit]
It is recommended to post items for discussion ahead of time at https://pad.riseup.net/p/nbmeeting. (Check that the template for the meeting is in place already, and that last week's notes have been moved to the wiki, of course)
Item prompts should follow the format: From/Raised by: [your name here] Seeking [decision/outcome/advice/something else] On topic: [topic]
Discussion Item 0[edit]
From: Loren Topic: Fundraising Update
So far this month we have $7500 in. We are halfway through the month. Last month totalled 9400 for the month. Unclear how much we can attribute to the fundraising campaign we have been doing exactly. This month has things that detract from this calculation. Also Liz transferred funds from the Venmo, from the last 3 months?
Benevity sends us money x and y of the month, so there is approximate 5k from that account that isnt transferred yet. Have not confirmed this, but gotten this number from a trusted person/ historical numbers.
Are we seeing net donations? Will check throughout the meeting.
Can continue this discussion on Discord, with finer grain details.
Bigger projects still ongoing this year, and its hard to project this with the upcoming work still ahead of us.
Elle: Other fundraising update: We have a new email for the fundraising group. Being used for the silent auction contributors right now. Send ideas for in-kind donations for the auction, or anything related to the auction.. volunteer help, etc etc to the email. nbfundraisingwg@gmail.com. Date of event: October 11.
Other fundraising event in October: LitCrawl! 3 Slots again this year. Writing Workshop, something else in the second place that we dont have right now, Afro-surreal writers. Date: October 25th.
Discussion Item 1[edit]
From/Raised by: elan Seeking approval on date (either 10/23 or 10/24) On topic: Science Foundation Date
https://discord.com/channels/720514857094348840/1412915014263902248
Friend is part of a nonprofit funding science research in a number of fields. Coming to SF soon to talk to potential grantees. Want to prop up the org in general.
They want to have a discussion, Jeffersonian style. 15 people or so? Snacks? Electronics room good venue? Were thinking a Thurs or Friday. Checking if there are any conflicts on the dates mentioned? (I, Elan, would be the Member host) Open to public.
Since LitCrawl is the 25th, maybe the 23rd would be better to help give a little gap period?
Any concerns? None.
Mark: Sound like no objections. Follow instructions, put it all on meetup, wiki, and the rest of it....
Discussion Item 2[edit]
From/Raised by: Jet Seeking: Solidarity, small c consensus. "policy" On topic: Drumming
Context: someone came to nb to drum, they got yelled at, threatened at by someone in nb of kicking them out, breaking the drums, throwing it out. The level of aggression is not acceptable! We have atl, mediation, and our meeting. Starting fights is _BAD_!!!!
Zacchae was there and overheard some stuff:
- mo was there - the drums were taken apart for restoration - the music room was closed for renovations - unsure if this was exactly what happened - the person who seemed the most heated was actually the drummer guy from what he heard.
Jet: On drumming generally: It IS one of the loudest things you can do at NB. It is probably reasonable to say there are reasonable times to say "don't drum". Like when there are events going on.
This is noisebridge, we should have more grace and room for people making noises.
Elle: I think that there are times where we can ask ppl to limit drumming in various ways. Or like, asking them to play quietly with noise cancelling pads.
Elan: Meeting and events with people in generally should be prioritized a little. Encourage people to move around for their own comfort. Potentially get drum covers?
Crutcher? Archer? - Some people are going to view drumming as assault. They are going to find it difficult to be around when they can't control it. The standard of "reasonable asks" doesn't work when two people have this kind of conflict. The policy should be succinct enough a simple sign on the wall can be posted. Otherwise this kind of outcome will be repeated.
Rohan: This outcome was very preventable with the ATL policy. I'm new to the space -- but given what i understand of ATL from the tour, thats felt like the nuclear option. I think we can all agree with some margin, what is reasonable. "Not during classes/events." "Not for extended periods" etc etc
Crutcher: My entire point is that we can't all agree. Massive disconnects can happen and we need a clear way to resolve
Joshua: Electronic Drums good solution.
Everyone: We have them lol
Zoda: I think the real problem is that someone yelled and threatened. Physical and verbal intimidation no bueno. No excellente. Not sure we necessarily need something like a formal policy. I think the policy IS "be excellent to eachother"
Jet: I learned to drum here. Feedback I would always get was "just stop making all that noise!"
Ken: One drummer one guitar, I didnt mind, didnt ask them to stop just get good lol
Mark: Multipole constructive solutiosn here; a sign
Josh: The problem was the yelling as a form of communication, not a lack of signage. Punish bad communication. Reward good communication.
Mark: I volunteer to talk with Joe. I will also put up a sign.
Jet: Signs suck.
Loren: Signs point to norms and good communication. But yes, not more than, like, 3 signs per room is very helpful.
Elle:
Most people Ive asked to be quiet have been nice in my experience.
Discussion Item 3[edit]
From/Raised by: Andrew Seeking: Exploring ideas for what we want to talk with them about On topic: Fiduciary, Prepping for that Conversation [Tabled for timing reasons, Andrew had to leave at 8pm]
Discussion Item 4[edit]
From/Raised by: zoda Seeking: Opinions/ Feedback On topic: GoFundMe Campaign
Zoda: last few weeks, we've been warming up our socials - instagram, bluesky. We want to do Youtube more.
Bigger thing I wanted to do was lead up to an explicit GoFundMe. Jotting down notes of what a stronger campaign looks like. Got a few ppl interested and willing to help out. Yon, Andrew, Mo, Eric. Want opinions and feedback from broder community.
Want to highlight accomplishments etc from the past year, like the door, shop wall, accesibility improvements, etc etc etc, and show how things have gotten so much more better and safer and cooler, then do an ask.
Elle: Do you want info from different areas of NB? Sewing, games, etc etc? About the subspaces they are in the most?
Zoda: I do need loren's help about getting gofundme's account stuff setup. Mo and Eric volunteered for video-ing stuff. I will most likely be focusing on the renovations and cleaned up electronics room. Might start reaching out and recruiting people for a mass cleaning, but I have no formal asks from specific sub-groups of NB right now.
