Discussion[edit]

🎉 CONFLICT RESOLUTION — WE WON (sort of) 🎉

Tuesday meeting. 90 minutes. Intense.

Rutherford's case:

  • Claimed pool was ADA violation (mediator: "it isn't")
  • Claimed ducks were "frivolous use of shared space" (mediator: "guilds self-determine activities")
  • Claimed we hadn't followed space allocation process (mediator: "informal patio use doesn't require formal allocation")

Our case:

  • Documentation showed ADA compliance
  • Testimonials from 6 members including 2 with disabilities who LIKE the ducks
  • 10 months of incident-free operation
  • Offered compromises anyway

OUTCOME:

  • Complaint dismissed
  • RDG asked to add small reflective markers to pool edge (we agreed, no problem)
  • Rutherford asked to attend one duck event before filing future complaints (he declined, lol)

Eddy: "So he just... loses?"

Lumen: "Nobody loses in mediation. But yes, we continue as we were."

Rutherford left early. Haven't seen him since.

Admiral Quackbar return:

Back from Cologne with tiny German flag sticker. Klaus reports he was "an excellent ambassador." Participated in 4 debugging sessions and their first official Silent Sitting.

We now have reciprocal duck exchange program. History made.

New visitors: Two people from AI safety meetup. "We heard you help people think through problems." Invited to Silent Sitting.
