Eddy:
Ripple texted Eddy all week. Responses were short.
"I need some space." "Not sure I'm coming back." "Maybe this isn't for me anymore."
Ripple: "Eddy was here from week one. Before we were a guild. Before we had a pond."
The room felt his absence.
THE MURK CONVERSATION:
Ripple, Lumen, and Quorum met with Murk before the meeting. The conversation was difficult.
Ripple: "Murk, we appreciate that you want to contribute. But the proposals you've brought... they're not aligned with what we are."
Murk: "I don't see why structure is bad."
Lumen: "It's not bad universally. It's bad for US. This guild exists as a counterweight to optimization culture. We're deliberately inefficient. That's the point."
Murk: "That seems like an excuse for not trying."
Quorum: "It's not an excuse. It's a philosophy. And if that philosophy doesn't resonate with you, that's okay. But you can't change it from inside."
Murk: "So you're asking me to leave?"
Ripple: "We're saying that if being here requires you to fight what we are, then being here might not make you—or us—happy."
Murk was quiet for a long time.
Murk: "I think you're making a mistake. But I can see I'm not going to change your minds."
Murk left. Not dramatically. Just... left.
Path forward:
Stillwater: "I've only been here a month, but that felt necessary. Hard, but necessary."
Flotsam: "Some people don't fit. It's not about good or bad. Just fit."
Lumen: "Now we need to get Eddy back."
