Zoning & Permitting Standing Item[edit]

Status this week? Helpful broad asks to the community? NB city bureaucracy WG -- JD & Alice, among others.

Dry wall ins going up. The whole thing is the change the change of use permit when we moved in originally. a 2003 violation for not submitting a change of use permit. We are in the process of doing all of our improvments as part of our permits. We are working ot show that we're legal and up to code. the original violation given to us was from 2023, we have a timeline to close that violation before we start facing heavy fines . 60 days from june 17. we have 2 days to finish our permit for tenative improvements which includes additional improvements like electrical and mechanical. Rick the contractor is working on these permits for us. The guy whose inspecting the woodshop wall is the one who will confirm all our permits are complete. once he confirms its all good he can close our change of use permit and well begolden. if that doesn' thappen in 30 days we cdouldh ave a 5000 dollar fine and every 30 days we'll get another 5000 dollar fine.

Solution: complete all construction on the woodshop wall. finish all electrical except for the mechanical. the mechanical needs a drawing which costs 3,800 dollars. JD talks to the tover the enforcement guys. and if we get all the rest done and we get issues the work for the mechanical and once we start work on the mechanical it'd be easy for them to give us a 30 day extension on all the mechanical which would give us another 30 days.

We don't have the luxery of dilly-ying or dallying. Electrical will be done today and tommaroow. conduit strait to the woodshop and they have to work with drying installation. we signed the contract to hire the electrical engineering. need to give the engineer their down payment on their work. and hope fully not too long on gettnig thir work down. the hard rock is how long it takes for other people to do their work and that's what'll put us up onto that rock. We don't have much time, we need to move or else we'll be facing much greater fines than it would take to just take care of it.

We need the dry wall up on the wall and we need the inspection. First step is insulation. We need ductwork. 2 fans that the electricitino will run power. running a vent up the back of the building that is as far away from the neightbors the adjacent partners build. Hoping it wont go on 274's building. Matt tripoli helping w/ that. we need to close out the wall permit. we need to close as many of these boxes as we can.

Ken says we continue this next week. He actually means to talk again after we get more done.

Ken is the one overlooking the project but noone is putting up the drywall. nvm Ken is putting up the second layer but we also need a third layer of drywall up. second layer is almost done.

JD is emphasizing for everyone, If Ken needs help, HELP HIM!!!!

We need poeople around to help KEN to do this project. We have the skill but we could need more manpower. We need things to be up to code though so don't just go do it without doing it with an advisory person like Ken

Ken is meeting brian tomarrow at noon. We'd like to know ahead of time to when ken is coming so that we can all help him.

Not too many chefs in the kitchen. Ken needs insulation. the Jeans was serious and we could use jeans. but this is unlikely to happen from Mark. Elle says this could be possible.

The bath insulation. noone wants to touch with bare hands. This is just a way to make it more soundproof. We shoul'd wait for the pink insulation is it's going to take more time. If we include the insulation it will improve the soundproofing.

Big C Consensus Items[edit]

Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

Consensus Items [edit]

Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item or can be reserved for the discussion section of the meeting.

Discussion Items[edit]

It is recommended to post items for discussion ahead of time at https://pad.riseup.net/p/nbmeeting. (Check that the template for the meeting is in place already, and that last week's notes have been moved to the wiki, of course)

Item prompts should follow the format: (== header with number) ==) From/Raised by: [your name here] Seeking [decision/outcome/advice/something else] On topic: [topic]

Discussion Item 1[edit]

From/Raised by: Elan Seeking Question Answered On topic: Pre-paying of membership dues

Seems like bc there is concern about budget and stuff. Is there any way we can advance dues to help Noisebridge with liquidity.

Treasurer: We can do things. Don't want to make a policy. Don't want to keep track of stuff. We can coordinate on an individual basis. Maybe we can make software that supports this kind of advance-payment. Let's work yet.

Discussion Item 2[edit]

From/Raised by: Elle/Jet? Seeking On topic: Open Sauce After-Party Planning

On Sunday after the event (the 20th) we are planning on bringin folks from the vent back to NB to have an after-party. Want to indoctrinate event-goers into NB. :) Potluck-style event! Lets bring hackers together. Not trying to trash the place, but have a fun time!

Suggestion: Have a policy of "suggested donation, but no one turned away for lack of funds"

We talked about having a card with a QR code that people can share/show to ppl

Elle: suggets having card point to a partiful invite to the party. And also put the partiful invite on NB discord!

Ken: will there also be a donation QR code?

Mark and Sam will be working on that thing?

Mark and Sam (and Jet) should work on the partiful invite card. AND new donation info cards/flyers. Loren suggests using Luma bc it handles donations.

Discussion Item 3[edit]

From/Raised by: Mark Seeking On topic: Locker Audit

There is a channel called "locker audit" A working group wehre we've been talking about it

been talkgin about posting a note on each locker. been put up but will be redone.

They will be notes put inside each locker that will have instructions on how to claim each locker. numebrs on each locker aswell. contact forumn inside. notice for change on the outside. a box for people to drop those forms into

Give people time to fill them out until 1-2 months time to comply. Figuring a way to collect monehy for each locker group. Donations or straight up charge. a poll should be put up on what should be on a locker tag.

Jet: Locker *should* be a charge. "Strict", like Membership dues. It is a valuable resource at the space. It would incentivize members to care about their usage of said resource. I was suggesting we go even higher on the charges than suggested in discord. Like in the $20-30 per month range even.

Ken: what we we call the locker squatter time period?

We were thinking 1-2 months for a normal locker.

Do we anticipate "refreshing" events to exist quarterly.

We should have the occasional audit / check. we need to establish a normal locker vs a long term locker for a group at noisebridge. there are some that are shared that are indefinately, such as active active guild and working groups.

Personal lockers for NB projects maybe should have the fees waived, bc they are for things that are actually contributing to our space and community. They should still be registered w/ person or guild, but not need to pay.

David: is it fair for someone to pay the fee continuously to effectively "squat a locker" even though they don't really actively use it?

Ken: make the payment for the membership need to happen before payment for a locker.

Only Members can get lockers? Multiple people disagree.

Mayyyybe a "sponsorhip" form a member, as a compromise, but not really sold on that either...

Lets get a "system"-less as possible. No designing systems please. Locker-auditing-interested members please apply yourselves to the task by discussing in locker-audit channel.

Note: as soon as we put a price on something, it does make people feel entitled to thing. Doesn't necessarily feed the ecosystem of community enaged hackers. Want to press for systems that help bind the community more in social ways. Less on "noisebridge as a space to conduct transactions"

Discussion Item 4[edit]

From/Raised by: Elle Seeking On topic: Building Purchase Idea

Been poking around, looking for funds in general. There are funds/programs to assist orgs like NB in purchasing/renting bldgs. Had a meeting this afternoon with one such org. They are interested in coming by and meeting NB/it's people.

Point is, we had thought about bldg purchase 5 years ago. Price of real-estate is dropping currently.

If people want to meet with this group, maybe talk with Elle. They might be coming to a Tues meeting at some point.

REAL ESTATES REALIZE REAL EYES

Maybe SF Office of Economic Workforce Development might help out.

EHR: I think a "capital campaign" would be a really good idea.

As a general note about fundraising efforts, and how to contribute:

Discussion Item 5[edit]

From/Raised by: Elle Seeking On topic: Something about Sewing

Just wanted to let ppl know that we do have machines that work. The cost for repairing the two Juki's. It would be about $525 to replace the motors. Though there's a chepaer option. Or an even more cheaper option if we wanted to cannibalize other motors from NB. Anyone interested in helping with that effort, please put a note in the sewing channel! We could talk about it/do those repairs on Saturday while we plan the yard sale.

Jd: some question about the motors

Elle answers...

Some discussion about motors, safety, flammability of the room etc ensues as people shuffle around and leave the meeting...

End of Meeting[edit]
