NoiseGame is an interactive game version of Noisebridge.
Goals[edit]
- A game that turns players into makers and inspires them to visit Noisebridge and other hackerspaces to take full advantage of the opportunities for learning and involvement
- Develop interactive simulations of Hackerspace activities people can try to introduce the basics of what they can do at a hackerspace
- Develop simulation modules of the different activity stations in the hackerspace
- Each hackerspace can collaboratively share and improve to drop stations into their own modeled floorplan to showcase what their hackerspace is like
Download[edit]
- A first export of the scene and models and scripts to make links clickable:
(being tweaked and uploaded now)
- [GITHUB REPOSITORY https://github.com/lxpk/hackerspacegame]
- HOW TO USE THE GITHUB:
- Download the project folder and install [Unity3D http://www.unity3d.com/download].
- In Unity, choose File Menu / Open Project.
- Click Open Other...
- Select the project folder with the Assets and Library folders inside it.
- Wait for Unity to import the 3D models and assets.
- Open the Noisebridge scene file and click PLAY at the top.
- To add new 3D models, create art in SketchUp Pro (Pro trial is free and required for FBX export option) or other 3D apps and Export it as FBX with Options... set to Double-Sided Faces and Complete All Triangles.
- Drag the FBX files and all their accompanying materials into the Project's Assets folder in their own subfolder.
- Drag the model into the Noisebridge scene and use the move, rotate and resize tools to place it in the scene (QWER hotkeys).
- Save the scene.
- Check the model's Import Settings to ensure its import scale is right. Sometimes you need to set it to 1 instead of 0.001. Other times it will need to be carefully scaled to some other multiple.
- To share your modifications, use GitHub to sync your new art and scene file into the Github repository with explanatory notes.
- If you're feeling ambitious, you can make things interactive using C# or Javascript code. For an example, look at the Convay code on the BigLEDBoard object that makes the Game of Life animation work.
Tools[edit]
- ENGINE: NoiseGame is built with Unity3D, a free game engine.
- MODELS: NoiseGame's floorplan and most of its props are modeled in SketchUp
