Excellence[edit]

What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!

Mark: Excellence is building cool things at nb and labeling them so the community can or can't utilize them.

Brief Kudos[edit]

Recent examples of excellent participation, say 3, unless the passion moves you.

J.D. - Nick realizing that the DTG printer wasn't working out and he pulled it out, without burdening Noisebridge with storing it

Wheezy: Narcise fashion show

Elle - Lauren(sp?) for teaching a great crochet class Many people who cleaned up after the fashion show

Narcise & Mark: Kudos to all the members who came to help ensure the fashion show ran smoothly and excellently

Zoning & Permitting Standing Item[edit]

Status this week? Helpful broad asks to the community? NB city bureaucracy WG -- JD & Alice, among others.

J.D. - there was a directors meeting at the building department today, with the landlord and the property manager, nice to meet them, the meeting was because although we've closed our prior change of use permit and opened a new one we were still responding to a 2023 violation for not filing our change of use back then. I explained that we had an initial inspection on our new construction and that we have a licensed contractor supervising the work, explained we're a volunteer org and have limited resources to get things done on a tight schedule. They gave us 60 days to close up some of the work we're in the midst of now. Might be heft price. in touch with electrician. coming by next friday. get his bid. texted matt our contractor how we want to do it. need kick in the pants to do it. This friday 10am. I checked with Gina. she has the keys.

Big C Consensus Items[edit]

Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

(new people were present, WE-Z described)

Consensus Items [edit]

None

Discussion Items[edit]

It is recommended to post items for discussion ahead of time at https://pad.riseup.net/p/nbmeeting. (Check that the template for the meeting is in place already, and that last week's notes have been moved to the wiki, of course)

Discussion Item 1[edit]

From/Raised by: Mark Seeking Discussion On topic: Fashion Show Post-Mortem

Narcise: Went really well. proud of cleaning up the space. 8 to 11. show went really well. Started right on time at 10. we were able to donate $80. very good for us. Nothing is perfect. I did my best. if there is any feedback I would love to hear.

Mark: Can we see the receipts for the money collected?

JD: Shows mark the Venmo total.

Elle: so much great about it. thank you everyone. there are some issues.

1) It took up so much of the space. Brought in so little. crochet class brought in $100 the next day. we need to do better. we lost a lot.

Narcise: forgive me. I did %10 because I had to pay other people. I thought I did pretty well. I never told anyone you can't be over here. we had tickets go for $5. I could've done a better donation. I'm still open to doing so. Forgive me.

JD - I thought it was fun. The people were very respectful. Fire engine went down the street and the DJ cut the music immediately, wasn't very loud, respectful of neighbors. Was disruptive of Noisebridge but you can't really have a cool event without a little destruction. The crowd didn't seem like they'd be likely to come back to Noisebridge and engage in hacking, it didn't particularly feel like a Noisebridge event. There is the risk that since we have complaints about noise from our neighbors that we're not permitted for nighttime entertainment use. This was small enough that I don't think it caused any problems. Did a good job of lighting the rear exit. My take: it was a fun night and people were respectful, just didn't feel like a Noisebridge event

Narcisse response - I asked specific collaborators to come and they weren't able to make it, they would have been more the tinker type. I tried my best, made sure the flaschen taschen was going, show people why I love Noisebridge.

JD - First time I saw someone get stabbed on a runway, that was great

Elle - I agree with JD about how it was a lot of fun, there were a couple SNAFU's, but overall it seemed like a fun group, unique group to Noisebridge. I do want to raise the issues that will need to be addressed for a similar event going forward.

  • we had people who have been kicked out of Noisebridge who were brought in as part of the event, that isn't the way to bring people in

Narcise: I told fromsa I can't have him here. I couldn't stop him

Elle: why didn't you tell any members

JD: I saw him come through, and talked to people. made the call to not make a scene.

Ken: to the same point, i talked to him. very well behaved. He knew. I'm gonna be respectful.

Elle: He was there the next morning, outside

Narcise: He was outside.

JD: this should go down as a footnote in fromsas 86 page.

Mark: direct response, focus on what to do better at the next event. there was no security at event.

Julius: This is a common issue. It's not an issue unique to the show. We need a more systematic approach.

Elan - I thought it was a very cool event hiccups aside, did want to bring up a thing to keep in mind is that doing cool events is one of the purposes of Noisebridge and it encourages future involvement. People walking by saw what was going on and were interested, got a tour of the place, got excited about the space. This is a way of bringing in people who wouldn't come into the space otherwise. Not just codemonkeysThere are a lot of things for a lot of people.

Ken - We as Noisebridge don't have any mechanisms for any of the 86'd people to be let back in. (people whisper: we actually do) I wasn't expecting Fromsa to be so meek.

Josh - response to ken: We have a very documented mach at the top of 86 page.

Ken has questions about who gets the email; Mark, officers of the board

Loren - Just wanted to ask if the event was sponsored by Fromsa's company Narcisse; no.

Julius - w.r.t. Ken, I disagree that an event is the right time.

J.D.; one of the reasons he is listed for being 86'd is that he would invite in people who were 86'd / didn't respect our rules

WE-Z; people come back even when they should be respecting our rules, we should enforce people respecting our boundaries, if we don't then frankly it will be hard to last in the space. You don't get on the 86 list easily. I would like to bring up the emails from Charlene and Tony as well. I want to reitterate Narcisse didn't know Fromsa was going to show up. Fromsa just showed up a couple minutes before the models started walking.

Ken; it's against the rules, but he was on his best behavior.

WE-Z; He's usually a rude person but this time he didn't want to run his mouth, was respectful.

Narcise: I would never try tojeopradize the space. I love NB. My goal was to bring a good show. It was fun. I appreciate yall.

Elle - I support what you are saying. there are a lot of other ways to make money with a fashion show. You had vendors. I don't know if you charged them. Incorperate other ideas.

Narcise: I would love to still help out with a yard sales.

Discussion Item 2[edit]

From/Raised by: JD Seeking discussion On topic:CNC donation

JD - Is Henry still there? tell us about this machine

Henry - I'm a robotic dev. metal prototyping is difficult. we made a desktop cnc machine. we plan on launching soon. We would like to donate a machine for testing / debugging. A slightly smaller than 2'x2' cutting area. 800 watt spindle, toolchanger, probe and internal dust collection.

J.D.; interested with others on sponsoring this event, I think we can totally make this happen. We need to discuss how this would affect the community in terms of the space, risk of breakage.

Josh; is it a permanent donation?

Henry; Demo show, possibly leave it, we'd have some people come by with the machine and help you get up to speed using it

Josh - does it have enclosure

Henry - yes, fully

Josh: Is it durable? Its rough round here. used by range of people. Henry; maintaining it will be your problem if we leave it there

Elan - Get paperwork. appropriate signage to direct ppl to the documentation. sounds like a cool device.

Mark - what date for the demo event?

Henry - july 30th?

JD - We'll be in contact over email, will loop in interested persons

Discussion Item 3[edit]

From/Raised by: Mark II On topic:Locker Protocol? Big C?

Mark - I would like a locker. I was told to test by putting tape on it. 2 weeks passed. I opened 1 up. started using it. Ken mentioned you had to pick a lock. I decided to put more tape. final notice. it was 3 weeks total. I was planning on doing something. juilus didn't agree.

Julius: I felt like time scale was pretty short. I don't feel its apropriate 1 or 2 people to do it on there own.

Mark - lockers aren't the best soloution maybe. propose something different

Loren - elan did an audit. talk to him

Elan - I got immediate push back after cutting first lock.

Josh - One thing to consider is taking stuf out of a locker and putting it all in a box somewhere is going to be pretty insecure. That stuff could get messed with.

Sorry that Elan got pushback, but that sounds like a more fundamental problem of us not following our own rules as a community.

Loren - it can be helpful to have a document about date that you did things. have a doccument with you.

Elan - I have a spread sheet.

JD - locker next to mine said checked a week ago. make an effort to find out.

Proof of use/ability to acces:

  • Notes with random # inside lockers.
  • Must respond in X weeks

Current Locker audit info: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1apU5aCi0mE5eLgyVyBzwZwysOgpTOfg_y_Wtka2Wkzo/edit?usp=sharing

Julius - Mark how long have you been coming to the space

Mark - little over a month

Julius - were you able to asses the usage of the space

Mark - no

Josh - the process used to be very simple for over a decade. our time period was 30 days. excellent to contact the person. it punished people who are entitled.

Elle - In favor of Pyconaut: he is a valuable member, what should be the protocol for longer term storage of useful things by valuable members? Maybe 6 months? idk

Mark II - Longer term storage of useful things is different from personal day-to-day use. Need to be on separate cycles/systems.

Omelia - what if a certain subset of lockers are prescibed to be 30 days only?

Josh - 30 days isn't magical, we just arrived at it via consensus before. Its arbitrary. But that said, NB isn't a storage facility. Stuff shouldn't be sotred here unattended for so long. Nothing is stopping someone from coordinating with someone to keep their locker updated the old fashioned way.

Elan - We did have temorary day-use lockers around covid time when i started getting more involved.

One storage class : guild storage. CHM, VR, etc etc No one ought to take away/throw stuff out.

Proposal :

Guilds: Free / unlimited duration storage (subject to consensus that guild is still a guild)
Rentals: Not free / unlimited (subject to not getting 86'd)
Rotating-lockers: Follow X days refresh rule that seem to be original setup

Julius - If we had more 1/3rd size lockers, maybe we could have way more lockers! All depends on what people are trying to store. The money is about knowing someone is using something, not about the money per se. Don't like the idea of gating something related to fundamental use of the space though.

Josh - any system is great. pre pay is the issue. becomes a service. project maxxxxing.

Julius - great idea. we used bike locks.

Mark Arity - I dont like managing. letss keep it simple. no spreadsheet.

mark 2 - nothing else to add

Loren - take pictures

Discussion Item 4[edit]

From/Raised by: Ken Seeking: Discussion On topic: un86 process

Ken - no, there will be people 86d again. we'll come back to it later.

Ellan - 2 requests, tony and charlene. Josh - The process may not work. tony asked gpt. do we have the energy and time? quite some time ha passed. Our process can be better.

Mark - no one is guarenteed a response.

Josh - no one is entitled to a response. it is excelent to respond.

Discussion Item 5[edit]

From/Raised by: Elle Seeking (announcement?) On topic: litquake / open studios

Elle - litquake every year. really popular. september 27th - 28th. Need volunteers and artists to sign up NOW if we want to make this happen

We have an item from litquake last year which we should probably take down

Discussion Item 6[edit]

Discussion Item 7[edit]

From/Raised by: Chris On topic: Nicenening up the coworking spacen upstairs

Chris - max $200 budget to make it nice upstairs with better lighting. add under lighting and task lighting. make chandelire. Helps make Nb feel safer

Wheezy - this is a great idea.

Loren - couches are downstairs for good reasons. congrats on good balance so far.

Elle - vinyl cutter will go in corner left hand window. JD will do it.
