Short announcements and events[edit]

- NERT (neighborhood emergency response training) classes in October. If interesteded contact Brian or Elan.

- Maker Faire this weekend (Friday - Sunday). Sign up for a shift! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/147WBLEdpy3wJbfes-iyWXAjf6sYnEu0gpUFgZ2QKPfs/edit?usp=sharing

- Fire, electrical, and mechanical inspections are happening this week. If you have a moment, please help clean-up/organize. Remove electrical daisy-chains!

Maker Faire Party last night of the event (Sunday)?

Probably something informal. We will tell people at the event to swing by if they can.

Elle - posting a "dangling to-do items" list due to her pending departure for a longish period of time from the space. Will post calls for folks to plug in on: a) finding pro bono attorney b) helping in the fundraising guild (see discord for more info) c) help hosting the Silent Auction (JonathanL is on it but will likely need help from a longer running member with hosting experience) d) Valencia Street Festival (Yon is on it but could use more of a committee) c) Sewing room and classes d) Awesome Foundation grant ap (I hope it will be done by Friday but might not be.)

Zoda - been working on the gofundme description. Ready for feedback, opinions ideas. Informal meeting tomorrow, maybe around 1 o clock or so. At some point, I will also record a video. Ideally within two weeks, I will have something posted. Want something at least like small c consensus so i can know there's no blind spots on my end

Loren - there were some "sunrise movement" ppl at a cafe i was at today. Seems interesting. Maybe fine to host some of them here for a thing? I invited them to consider a meeting here in the future.

Excellence[edit]

Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other. (Give a quick, 1-3 sentence summary.)

Leave NB just a little bit better than you found it. Excellence towards one-another as well. Working in collaboration and communication. Strive for better than the nominal amount of whats expected.

What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!

Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of Excellence[edit]

Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Anti-Harassment_Policy Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) More approachable & specific guidelines, https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Slack.

Brief Kudos[edit]

Recent examples of excellent participation, say 3, unless the passion moves you.

To Ken, JD who's putting in an unbelievable amount of work for the shop and everything.

To everyone who helped put up the big fan.

To mistername for helping take the trash out last night!

To Nick, Rohan, etc for helping us finish the makerfaire display!

Brian for helping out with the coffee table and all the other stuff.

Zoning & Permitting Standing Item[edit]

Status this week? Helpful broad asks to the community? NB city bureaucracy WG -- JD & Alice, among others.

Hopefully the last report! If we aren't done by monday, we are gonna get a bill! (:O)

We have 4 inspections to go.

Electrical - Thurs AM Mechanical - looking a duct work, not scheduled Fire - Ive been assured he just should look at the spinklers we put in and thats all Final Inspection - closing out the whole permit.

We want final inspection Friday so we could have the weekend to hopefully deal with any potential, if unlikely, unexpected issues.

Hopefully we all done by next week. But it aint over till the fat lady sings.

Elle: Is it worth us to seek low interest loans from the city. JD: Maybe?

Membership[edit]

New Member Name: Jess Sponsor: Elan

[Questions ensue about Jess's involvement in NB and plans as an associate member]

No blocks. Jess is an associate member! Elan will go over the checklist.

Big C Consensus Items[edit]

Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

Consensus Items [edit]

Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item or can be reserved for the discussion section of the meeting.

Discussion Items[edit]

It is recommended to post items for discussion ahead of time at https://pad.riseup.net/p/nbmeeting. (Check that the template for the meeting is in place already, and that last week's notes have been moved to the wiki, of course)

Item prompts should follow the format: From/Raised by: [your name here] Seeking [decision/outcome/advice/something else] On topic: [topic]

Discussion Item 0[edit]

From/Raised by: Raising suggested membersip fees to $2000 Seeking Plans On topic:

Elle: When I give tours I usually say "membership is 80 but i think its going to 100?"

JD: Current membership form say 40/80/160.

Elan: "We'd like your support but pls dont go broke for us"

J: We should probably figure out what our historical suggested memberships have been and do a CPI calculation.

JD: A lot of artists can't afford full price for theater tickets, so there are "subsidized tickets for artists" paid for by people who pay a deliberate, higher priced, "subsidy ticket"

J: After lots of calculation and advanced research, I determined that inflation-adjusted membership suggested donations should be 150% of old values. So, 60/120/240

Discussion Item 1[edit]

From/Raised by: Loren Seeking: consensus/action On topic: Sunrise Movement meetup

Climate change activist group.

Loren: just want a couple comments, help me make this go well. I don't want to be the sole point of contact. More community members making this happen would be nice. Also maybe a good time for us to say, "I do want to help them maintain the boundary of "we maintain the mission of educating and hacking on things, but come do excellent things in the space, but don't 'take over the space'". Keep their politics separate, even though they may be largely aligned with many folks here.

Anyone want to help Loren with this?

Elan: Sure.

Mark: This is earlier in the day tuesdays?

Loren: evenings. So during meeting/writers workshop

So, ask them to use Music Room or Electronics room.

Discussion Item 2[edit]

From/Raised by: John Meyers Seeking Outcome On topic: John Meyers' return to the space

John: in a better position, more stable housing. I have some (woodwork) pieces in the space that I wanted to finish/move out of the way, because they might be a burden to you all.

Projects left unmanaged, want to at least take care of those, resolve those.

Maybe I could at least provide some ground level support for NB - help out with other projects/ events, whatever. Don't have a LOT of time necessarily, but if NB needs help with anything, I can maybe offer assistance. Greater sense of stability in my life, that i think would allow me to at least maybe be an auxiliary participant if NB would have me.

J: will vouch that John is a good source of muscle, should we need to move large things, or whatever. Still have concerns about use of power tools.

JD: Don't we have procedures for reintegration? I'm kind of concerned there were people around when the decision was made to ask john to take a break. Want their input.

John: Would like at least consensus that I can remove pieces from here.

Ppl: You can already do that anytime. Just come here with Josh and do it.

John: I also just want to make the case that I've improved as a user of tools. Had training over at general lithium, with no incidents. Am able to make myself more independent too. I have most of my own tools now and wouldn't rely on NB tools so much. Ive learned a lot of practical discipline. Would just ask NB take things like that into consideration. Would like to at least renew an amicable relationship with NB. So I can at least be of use to you folks.

J: Would you be interested in coming back to NB if you werent allowed in woodshoip still?

John: yeah, there's other things im interested in here.

Loren: Repeated actions, left us with a comfortable boundary, with supervision. Glad to hear you feel you've improved yourself and that you believe further trust is warranted. I hear this as a request to re-open the conversation.

Elan: Don't want to speak for other ppl, but seems like there's not really any concerns aside from woodshop use.

Elle: I'm glad to hear that youre interested in coming back. I hesitate to join in a decision in helping you do so. Since some folks who had concerns originally are not at this meeting. Would you be willing to to hold off on the conversation/decision for now?

Mark:

1) Figure out between you two (Josh & John), when is a good time to take care of them?
2) Who are these mysterious people who had concerns?
3) I'm one of those mysterious poeple, I have concerns. (? -- I have concerns about other usages of the space). I want to be sure that you won't be here without supervision. I have worries that you might use another area of the space in the same way as the woodshop. I would need more convincing.
I have concerns. To clarify, the concern was not just the potential to harm yourself, but also harming other Noisebridgers. Do you acknowledge harm to other noisebridgers?
Other's safety? Wood flying at others from the chop saw. "I don't remember that." A piece fell off, it didn't hurt anybody.
Right now I'm very comfortable with you here under somebody else's watch
Not on your own recognizance.

John: thank you. Sharing updating contact info, new stable phone number & email.

Discussion Item 3[edit]

From/Raised by: Elan Seeking Plans On topic: Barnraising to put up the project shelves

Ken found some shelves for a good deal.

On the assumption that the inspections go great. It would be nice to get the intended shelving area organized in one go.

Before the intended shelves go up, they need to be cut to height. They are currently too tall.

J: A certain kind, generally you don't want to cut those. Definitely not at the bottom. The diagonals are key to stregth.

Elle: whatever we do, can we make sure this stuff doesn't happend DURING the silent auction period?

Let's put contact info: "Do not hack -- Woodshop project -- plan to use, by about 2025-10-06 -- contact @Ken (or @isep / Elan)

Ppl: yep. Talk to Ken

Discussion Item 4[edit]

From/Raised by: Loren Seeking Plans On topic: Informal Maker Faire Party

Let's buiy some pizzas and beer. Tell everyone you meet this weekend to come to the space Sunday evening.

Elan: Can we copy-paste our post-OS invite easily?

Jet: I may be able to print it since I have a certain free printer access

(Make sure Paypal QR links in the space are good)

Also post as much as you can on social media!

Discussion Item 5[edit]

From/Raised by:Elle Seeking Plans On topic: Challenge Grant Status

Loren: We should send out a new fundraising email. Its about time.

  1. fundraising-wg should work on the campaign follow-up email on Thursday. Must go out (or be done) by Thirsday pm or Friday am.

Something about this being a good timing to push out a email by thursday in order to invite folks to come to our maker faire booth, and maybe even on Sunday night.

Loren: In #finance-wg there will be a thread about the status, please look out

Still trying to work out the math vis-a-vis the confounding variable that is "venmo" (multiple months come in in one bulk deposit).

Overall there is a dropoff, its time to get ppl's attention again!

Do-ocratic Task Board[edit]

Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!
