Wheezy: *ATL* There was a new person angello at the door that was entragating wheezy at the door and he's been unexce3llent in the past. and when loren and wheezy was closing up he was not leaving. the pattern waas that he wanted to act like he doesn't hear you the first time. he asks stupid. he wanted to get an emotional reaction out of wheezy. Crypto bro. Respected the ATL. Young pourtorecan man with curly black hair. Name: Angello Not the younger Peruvian Angello who's awesome, our newest Member.x

Excellence[edit]
Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other. (On first Tuesdays, seek a few definitions. Other Tuesday, give a 1-3 sentence summary.)
Wheezy: it means being kind, being patient, being emotional intelligent. It is excellent to not sleep in the space, or take pictures of people who do not want to be photographed. It's common sense.
What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!
Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of Excellence[edit]
Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Anti-Harassment_Policy Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) TWO MINUTES MAX More approachable & specific guidelines, https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Slack.
How the meeting works[edit]
We have a moderator who has keeps a "stack" the moderator notices when people want to speak and will make sure everyone is heard. There are special rules from a tradition of anarchist organization. This comes from groups like Occupy who hold giant group conversations. If you have a direct responce to something then use the hand signal which looks like finger guns. Please be judisios in stack, we are trying to calm down and be productive and stick to the stack. The moderator is doing their best and let the moderator know if they aren't seeing someone.
Brief Kudos[edit]
Recent examples of excellent behavior, say 3, unless the passion moves you.
- Ken: Has been patient and persistent for the last year in working on the wood shop. Now the inside is taking shape. He has built custom workbenches and other furniture, and it's starting to look very organized!
- Yuki: Kudos to Jet for the noisebridge instagram (Jets says thank you)
- OkZack: Kudos to Jess for organizing the new 3d resin class. Wants to see lots of new classes and is happy to see and support more .
- Jet: Kudos for everyone who makes noisebridge run
- Julius: Kudos to Mark for making noisebridge work and being the clue who made us run. We wish him the best in the break.
Zoning, Permitting, & Improvements -- Standing Item[edit]
Status this week? Helpful broad asks to the community? NB city bureaucracy WG -- JD & Alice, among others.
Loren: we can take this off the meeting template!!!111one Elan: Anything more on this topic we can put in the announcements. We may or may not have to give the city some more money. They are deliberating. Loren: we are done with oour big capital projects. Applaus!
NB16 Status Update - Standing Item[edit]
There is a big event this weekend. events all weekend. NB16, 10MOF by Daniel web. is anyone can teach a class then we will have people do it on Saturday on Classathon. We have a spreadsheet for volenteers for the entire weekend. Elle: Storngly encourage people who are doing classes to announce their classes on meetup and people will be looking for the class and they will hear about NB16 at the class as well. LX: He's done this.
Guilds & WGs[edit]
Reports from guilds & working groups. Updates! Events! Requests!
- What are guilds - briefly describe (much like the previous section on "Excellence")
Nthmost: many years ago there was a page fractal working groupl. We used to have working groups. The fractal working group had a limitation. It didn't have long term vision. it disappated. the guild overlay it had a level of mastery and levels to it. If you wanted to findsomeone in a skil you could go to the guild and find those people. Volenteer labor can be organized to create more cohesion across time and burnout sessions and give recognision. distict areas of interest. Sewing, Robitics, Infra, Space, Music, Electronics, are all guild. Sewing guild came together that they were put a keycode on it. this is an example of autonomy. If you think of noisebridge as fractal, then the guilds are the major branches. LX: your buss number if you disappeared, if you disappeared would things still happen. if you disappeared and things wouldn't work then we would break down and the bus number is 0. we can't have things die with one person. the idea of a guild is that you need to find a group of people that you can share skills so that if someone disappears then we can tag team and keep the knollage going . game bridge has alwways had one instructor at least. Nthmost: you can define your own interior structure to recognize people for having specific skills -- this becomes a DIRECTORY to help NB. Elan: there was talk about making a AV guild then if we start purchasing expensive equipment we might have a locker. LX: we have alot of VR lockers that could be used Elle: sewing guild, something that guilds are not is a dititorial setup. it is not a thing were people who are more active have more power over others. speaking for sewing, sewing has more ryles than other guild because it has more needs for specificity. food eating in the sewing room can ruin projects so the guild bans it from their room. Coffee spill has messed up clothes, machines, tables, floor. some of the things in sewing might not make sense outisde of sewing but makes sense within the guild. sewing scissors, if you use them for paper then you can hurt the wrists of the people who use the scissors. fabric an be ruined and fabric is exprensive. Effotrs within the guild. anyone within the guild can teach and you can have skill shares to speread skills. consider joining guild even if youre just interested! Loren: Great thing to say at new member hour. Elle: when is new member hour Nthmost: lets stay on track. Wheezy: meme guild. Wheezy is the BDFL. will strike down the bad memes
- Nthmost gives wheezy an epic hat*
Wheezy: the person with the fox pfp needs to improve their memes Jet: JULIUS, what's up with the DRONE GUILD?!? Julius: we have a discord channel and wants to get people into fpv and wants to get a kit into the space that is contingent that you can fly a drone competently in a sim. Will try to put up a circuit on the cieling for people to race around LX: Wants to help, sounds fun.
New Members/Associate Members[edit]
What are they? Is anyone trying to become a Member or Associate Member? If not move on. No long discussions.

Financial Report (first Tuesday of month only)[edit]
Anarchist societies under a capitalist state need money to survive and thrive, yo.
18k in checking, 48k in savings. This is all a result of putting out notice to the community and requesting help .
- Monthly revenue, expenses. Big projects. Big fundraising events. Reserves in bank.
- Any other details by those participating in handling our financials
- The latest financial reports from the treasurer are available at https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Finances
Spending Needs[edit]
Gotta spend money on XYZ (i.e. Gate, wiring etc.). WHO CAN SIGN THE CHECK OR LEND THE CREDIT CARD!?!?! It doesn't matter if we agree to do something and it can’t be paid for.
Fundraising Update[edit]
How's it all going
Loren: We get payments out from GoFundMe on a monthly basis via Paypal. The number right now is $21,000 raised directly by GoFundMe.
Elan: would it be possible for someone to go update the sign at the entry for transparency?
Loren: The third thing I want to do is clarify our fundraising plans going forward. Through the end of this year, we should focus on donations. In the new year, we can move our focus towards growing our membership, running more classes, and other things that bring in more participants. If we were to do really well with our fundraising drive, like double it again, then we may not need to focus so much on growing membership.
Elle: the GoFundMe is great, but it's slowing down. We have to keep circulating it for it to continue to grow. The party doesn't have any fundraising attached except for the silent auction.
Jamison: I think it would be good for the board to commit to a number of days of cash on hand. Six months of expenses is typical in startup land. Under that you are considered default-dead.
Loren: spent some time today doing ID verification. The app timed out for half an hour or more. Through the agreement we are making with CB informally, we should have a letter signed by the board, affirming that the money belongs to noisebridge, and that it is the board's intent that it be moved from coinbase and it's original supervision into gemini, paypal, kraken, or separately.
Big C Consensus Items[edit]
Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items
Consensus Items [edit]
Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item.

From/Raised by:Kavya Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] On topic: Sewing Circle
Cavia: Everyone who has creative hobbies has alot of unfinished projects so wants to have a time for sewing coworking and keeping each other accountable and bonding. new to NB so wants guidance Nthmost: you're doing it and you just need to get the idea out there and collaborate Most people are avalible at this time at noisebridge weekly meeting. Elle: It's not because of the weekly meeting, it's more because of the writing meetup. Tuesday is an awkward day, but that doesn't mean you *can't* do it. Julius: it's not about if you're allowed to or not. you have to find a pattern for it that is ammendable that adds to the existing activities in the space. Would it work if we're quiet? Julius: could work very well no matter where it is. Loren: might be a concern that there is more traffic through the writers group that could be disruptive. going through the backdoor could be possible Julius: how many people would show up? Looks like 6 people have showed interest? Loren: What style is this meeting? It depends on the person. coworking, couple of hours. coulpdn't stay past 10pm personally. Loren: Sounds like this could be considerate and good Elan: Pinged Judy to see if you could coordinate tonight with the writers workshop so that you could make sure it works out. check discord. Elle: has organized similar events and the numbers of people who show up for queer crafting events might be around 20 people. could be a variable that we only know once it happens. good you showed up tonight. if you really want to do it on tuesday. Look at other night to see when is another time that could work. Wants to do it on tuesday or maybe saturday. working on scheduling. Jet: GLHF
(discussion item) 2: [topic][edit]
From/Raised by: OkZack Seeking: decision/outcome/advice[?] On topic: Organizing outreach to people that want to teach new classes at NB.
Gather 1–2 people to meet with OkZack to draft a one-page proposal for new-teacher outreach. We have equipment that takes up significant space, but lacks active teachers or guilds, and there’s little coordination around it. We need skilled people who can take ownership and teach classes—this supports our mission, increases membership, and brings in funding. Julius: What kind of relationship would teachers have with Noisebridge? The relationship is open to negotiation. Since we have almost no CNC/welding/etc classes for 1–2 years, let's be open to discussing class donation $ revenue sharing arrangements. Avoid knee-jerk reactions to sharing—opening the door to outside teachers can diversify our teaching community. There are many skilled, motivated people in the Bay Area who could contribute, and this helps reconnect us to local startup culture. If teachers want to share $ from classes we otherwise wouldn’t have, we should at least consider it—otherwise we’re leaving money on the table. Julius: “I understand more now.” The immediate step is simply creating the document and posting teacher outreach on Craigslist and other platforms. Nthmost and Julius: Interested in continuing the discussion.
(discussion item) 3: [topic][edit]
From/Raised by: Yuki Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] On topic: Event being hosted here
Yuki: Reaching out to varius people intereseted in running events here. one of the people is interested in hosting youth centered education event. robotics programming and other stuff like that . DEVOXX4kids (https://www.devoxx4kids.org/). this person has a lot of expertise in this event and other countries in 40 countries and they always sell out. they could organise coporate funding so they don't cost anything for us and we could still take donations.
Jet: That sounds like one of the most perfect opportunities I have heard for noisebridge in a while. That absolutely needs to happen. When you say youth, what does that mean? Yuki: It's for teenagers specifically. Nth: Do we have the ability to be a financial sponsor? Loren: Meaing re-granting? Loren: doesn't want to set the precedent to doing this. Elan: we did get the grant... Jullius: feels torn at these kinds of events but is questioning about if we want to encourage kids to come to the space. we have a unquie safety risk here. we have dangerous things here. worried we can't have kids here because of the kids here. Doesn't like the presedent Elan: Note. one of the grants we did this once where we got a grant earmarked for rent. this is not to be regranted for anything but rent. so the money could be fungible but we might want to look at the other grants we've gotten Nthmost: disagrees and thinks we should allow kids here. Kids in SF don't get enough credit and we have enough precedent for having kids here. Waivers don't help all that much. Eric: thinks waivers work Loren: I don't know that people. I would like to check whether our insurance shares that opinion. When it comes down to brass tacks, broader society may not take our side on that. As far as general involvement, in some ways it feels like it furthers the presendent and might make us open to taking on risks Julius: nothing to do with the capability of the kids. the kids who have made there way here on htier own are able to take care of themselves. therer are kids who come nad have been worrying others with the use of the woodshop and such. 13-14 year olds. especially when no other poepple in the space it's worrying. Loren: we might not espouse a pro kids policy. when people show up as excellent then we might have concerns if they are of age and if they are being excellent then it hasn't been a concern. Jess: I want to say, if we can be the kind of community where we can trust kids and find a way to keep them safe, then this is not something we should turn away from just on the basis that we are a certain kind of community. We should not give someone under 18 door access so they can be there by themselves. Also, maybe this is the time to ask: do we have business insurance or similar? Loren: we do have directors and officors insurance. when the policy asks us how many people come to classes and events throughout the year. we have insurance for general education and low risk general use. LX: posted in chat an existing policy we have around kids.(https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Kids) TLDR parents should be attending their kids because of the safety issue. people in the past have dropped off their kids and gone to lunch. kids who have been here unattended have stolen -GPUS and are more than capable but are maybe more dangerous to us than we are to them. this policy is to protect kids and Noisebridge. Elle: had to ask a kid to leave noisebridge a year and afew months ago. the kids and the mother split and started using the laser cutter with someone who was then 86ed and then interuped a knife class thene threw a tantrum in the hallway. had to be asked to leave. Fears that if we have a program that we are earning money from then we have these on the fence issues around safety it plays badly for us. If it was a feww thing then it could be ok. but if we are earning money then it makes it worse then we might be taking advantage of hte children coming Nthmost: How is this different to ask a kid and adult to leave. they are both asking poorly. Elen: kids might not leave. Nthmost: some adults also do not leave Julius: could we move the converstaion to something more productive to be focussed on volenteering to facilitate it. Noisebridge could still help even if it waas another locatoin. Yuki: this is more about bringing peopple into our space Elan: Topic has diverged. we can support an event aimed at kids who are supuervised. come work on projectxs if supervised by an adult here. we have a 12-13 year old who is a infra meetup person. we have 7 year olds who come to the eleectronics meetings. htis could be something that is well organized and people wouldn't be dropping off their kids and we can say " hey welcome ot nb and this is what we do, these are our expectation. come bring your parents etc" Loren: Summary, Phrase. wanted to suggest to writeup language policy like things to help facilitate helping parents bringing kids into our commnunity. Meta comment. if you have to ask what is our policy on kids, we have a default exclusionary policy. with superfision welcome please come. thats all Kava: what does 86ed mean Loren: Sometimes we ask people to not come after a conflict to make sure they don't come back. 86 is the "go away and dont come back" usually permanent but we theoretically have a mediation.https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/86 this is a fun read. Daniel: 8 milkes out 6 miles out. Everyone: it means banned
Yuki: the event is structured and class based so no wondering. question: regranting? what does that mean. Nthmost: a fiscal sponsor Loren: the awesome foundation is a non-profit that gives out grants that gives to projects in many places. hesitant ot do this because when we have money flowing out, if we have a way that people can get money out of NB then it can be worrying Nthmost: we've done it before though so it can be possible Elan: Sure we've done it in hte past. 20k of hte recent influx is donor advised grants but cannot be used for giving to other non-profits not approved. Nthmost: Fiscal sponsorhsip means that we can accept money. Elle: Fiscal sponsorship is when an org without nonprofit status applies for a grant applies with a fiscal sponsor who is a real nonprofit and the money goes through the sponsor. Generally is a burden because if our subgrantie screws up then we are responsible.
Yuki: Why is this relevent?
Jet: we have a coporate sponsorship that would pay for this
Nthmost: this could be relevent.
Elle: if the copporate sponsor asked for us to do fiscal
Julius: timeline? and how many participants? Yuki: jan feb. 30-40 Loren: how many rooms? Yuki: not sure. we will have a meeting next week and if you want more info yuki will invite you to the online meeting. Julius: how ot reach you yuki: yukinimo
break[edit]
The note takers are on strike. We are taking a five minute break to warm up our hands.
The note takers have been placated.
(wheezy annoucement)
(discussion item) 5: [topic] == From/Raised by: NthMost Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] On topic: Events being hosted by Chris
Nthmost: what events and what dates? Chris: January 3rd and 24th. They are two different events. laser things one if a area 51 types of events. other is Saphic fantasy event. one is a laser show that's area 51 themed. the other is hosted by another person and she will come in and present about what the event is about. has made a loose forumn about how the event goes. the events has gotten insurrance and 500 dollars down for noisebridge for use of the space and can help the space. 2 event in a month is a 1000 dollars.
Nthmost: What days of the week would that fall on?
Chris: Saturday (both)
Nthmost: What is the character of the space in general on Saturday evenings?
Jet: Generally quiet. Not usually any strangers.
Wheezy: not busy but lots of new people. coffee breidge and weekday workers come in after work week.
Elle: didn't get the times for the events. Is it eventing
it's the evening same thing as the last time . 10pm - 3am events
Elle: most things are not here that late so that could be fine.
Julius: We've gotten complaints about noise?
Loren: After just the one event we did get neighbor complaints.
Elan: had a question: offline could you post the company for insurrance for us to use for other events
Chris: For sure. For the nieghbor thing. we swould have noone hangout on the street so it's not outside at all or noisy.
Nthmost: do you have people who you can dedicate who can make sure that happens
Chris: we have securty that we have to make sure of this. There will be people walking around and somebody at the door. We want to make sure that people are safe going home from these events.
Elan: can we give a qr code that automatically lowers the volume of our speakers
Julius: if not at NB where would you do it?
Chris: Ive done a couple.. we were going to do one at the continental club. Some have been house parties, some would have been at 3rd and Army (Cesar Chavez). This is a pretty new series of events.
Eric: I was just at Yamo and she thinks we are super cool. If somebody has the budget for catering, that could be an option.
Nthmost: How many poeple are coming?
Chris: maybe a hundred.
Julius: who is the NB sponsor? would feel more comfterable having someone be heree to make sure it's good.
Chris: Ken would sponsor us.
(irrelevent) Eric: Someone might come with a gift basket of food
Loren: Fire access caused concern
Julius: what are we doing
Loren: make sure noone uses it
Chris: make sure that it's taped off. and people will make sure that people dont use it. the toilets were good. He had to walk around to make sure people were being responsible.
Jess: I was there earlier that night. There shoudl probably be better control at the door. There were a lot of people accumulating outside. And there wasn't anyone controlling who was just standing outside.
Chris: will be adressed.
Elle: neighbor complaints are serious and so we need to keep good with the people around us. What are you going to do to make sure that we are good
Chris: More security more hard reduction noon hanging outside.
Elle: awesome
Loren: Could you be more specific about those commitments? We'd prefer using our neighbor niceness for internal commitments
Chris: Totally. I even wrote down kind of a contract. It was on a doc. I can have someone send that over.
Julius: maybe you can drop that?
Loren: That's in the chat
Nthmost: please add it to the discord.
Chris: come back next week and people will have looked at the contract and well go from there
Julius: we need contact info to reach people on site. add those please
Nthmost: this is not a decision, a discussion. This is sufacing details and helping the community form a coherent opinion on this. It's not that we don't want cool events. This is outside out normal operations.
Chris: totally get it.
Nthmost: pro rave all the way but important to socialize. but we need to over-address them. this is not educational and not a workshop so we need to be careful.
(Cyberdelia mentioned)
Chinese Man: For this event is the rental market rate, under market rate. If under, what is the rationalle for that?
Chris: not sure what you got for the last. We were talking about $500 flat for this one.
Jet: what is the pricing for these events like? I hosted the open source afterparty. Obviously this was a noisebridge event, but we wanted to make sure peopel could attend affordably.
Chris: We had a no-flop-at-the-door. If you have 100 people and you're asking for 10 dollars, how much money is that? But then you have security, and talent, and props. Usually you...actually last party ended up costing money out of pocket. That's why I think 500 dollars is pretty modest.
Elle: we're listed as a workshop and social evetns are a side thing we do. aren't we listed as a workshop? pointing out if we start doing too many parties it could make problems later on.
Loren: our zoning and understandin with the city is that we were able to get out of 30k zoning fee as an online community that rents a shared workshop. not a late night social events space. it keeps us in good graces with the city to be in this status.
(discussion item) 6: [topic] == From/Raised by: LX Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] On topic: Financial Emergency Status
in the past we had all our financial data and if the treaasureer was not there then the page could answer the information. LX has updated the wiki about our information. we need to start updating the page asap and before every meeting sos we can tell people accurately.
Loren: updating rn about Defcon efforts. the major complication that we SHOULD PERSUE OFFLINE (we're at hour 2.6) is recurring revenue. while recurring revanue is half of expenses so the answer is our runways is short.
(discussion item) 4: [topic][edit]
From/Raised by: Many people Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] On topic: Membership
Nthmost: It can be hard to figure out who to talk to, who knows what, so I'm holding a meet-a-member meetup before the meetings. I put a rocking chair, because it's sort of like hanging out with an old hacker on the porch. Sit in and opine on The Noisebridge That Was and speculate on the Noisebridge that is To Be,sorta Membership
Jamison: Last time I was here we were discussing whether to introduce a new/different category for people who want to immediately start donating/having a relationship with the space
Elle: Web Daniel withdrew that proposal. It is a proposal, but not in draft form.
Web Daniel: To speak on Web Daniel's behalf, the original proposal was a bit scattered. It was discussed in the meeting. We were going to do a big C consensus thing, but I was sick or something. What we really need is a good set of names. Web Daniel withdrew that proposal. It is a proposal, but not in draft form
Loren: thisi s something ot affirm at some point. and it might be good to try things that work and in an intermediate zone where we cna try out other words. we don't want to argue really hard about a descision about labels. lets try it out. translation explainers and redirects but we don't need to decide at a meeting and we should decide by doing.
Do-ocratic Task Board[edit]
Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!
End of Meeting[edit]
Nthmost: Frustrated with popeopl's lack of poples inderstand of boundries of things in the template. Please stop going backwards. no back and forth. Everyone is so burt.
Loren: Discussion has been updated with outcome. Do you need a descission or recruiting volenteers. have a goal for the discussion items.
Nthmost: fundraising is something that interupts alot. not sure which way it goes.
Elle: there is a boundry between the treasurer's report and the fundraising efforts.
Nthmost: Many people talked about fundraising efforts during the treasurers report.
Elle: there is not time for everyone to come into this meeting to miss the items. we always want a discussion on the bitcoin.
Nthmost: might be a good point to make a wiki page about the finances.
Elle: no more talking about bitcoin.
