Security, open/verifiable/inspectable hardware, desire for group projects, and a Seattle community (but not mesh) network project, were the topics discussed at tonight's infra meetup.
Introductions[edit]
- [name] - [background]. [goals for meetup, or interests to explore]
- Loren - background as a platform eingeer, want to work on live online collaboration tools for the meetup. Sharing links, adding to notes.

- Charlie Cable -- just back from a lil conference in PNW
- Josh -- just hanging out
- Mike -- software engineer, working on setting up k8s cluster at home -- reading about atherosclerotic CVD -- let's make something -- micro-hack-a-thon? (some --
- Coffee aka Ivan -- was at CCSF, now at UC Berkeley. Started a CS club at CCSF. Think my fundamentals are messed up, working on it now.
- Citrine -- here to join Ivan here
- Cloud -- current runner of 5mof.net at NB. Also have a facination with cardiovascular tissue, talked with some people about this.
- Greg -- programmer, run home labs. No new projects now. Have a too nacent project.
- Miko -- recovering mathematician, work on privacy projects. Work on hw, don't get to enough. Love / hate relationship with dev/ops.
- Zacchae -- I love microsoft windows, only use .net, ?! .7 stallamns. 4g modem.
- Jet -- i like robots, drones, and noisebridge. Today, I fixed a 4mm motor stater. I was very happy. I do the Noisebridge status bot
- Yoshi -- first time here. Currently volunteering in Seattle, for a community-operated network. Primarily serving people coming out of homelessness. Thinking of virtualizing with proxmox.
Lesson or Demo[edit]
- Read aloud: clarify for meetup. We are taking notes in a riseup pad (or I am--help appreciated, and links). We have meeting notes posted to the wiki. noisebridge.net, search Infra, or Meetups/Infra. (the Infrastructure page has a disambiguation link.)

bunnie huang talk - on inspectable silicon -- expect a surge in 28nm manufacturing. went deep on why transistor density is not getting cheaper working for the last Rewarding conference -- learn about the own-ability of the stack
Spoke with intel security folks. They're going through a massive layoff, 20% cuts across the board. Met engineer responsibilty for remediating & validating micro-code fix vulns. Fun Hack: microcode update to run RISC ~instruction set, directly on x86
DMCA -- Digital Millennium Copyright Act -- DRM Digital Rights Management, for movies, music, classically, other areas.
Weird case -- court disallowing exception to DMCA -- _because_ company sold the phone at a loss.
Pixel phone -- updates. Supports using GrapheneOS. Yes? uses secure boot, but warns that you're not using a Google-signed kernel.

Evidence-based trust. Refutable. e.g. airplane mode yellow light indicator may not be enough, for someone's threat model. Did a project -- detecting (and live reporting) RF emenations from the phone. Live plots on sensors.
Hardware work with Snowden, Matthew Green, and EFF -- lauched a lawsuit -- about excessive use/misuse of DMCA to prevent security research.
(Open Suace -- july 18th - 20th, next month) -- can volunteer.
Zacchae -- this is the infra group -- let's do infra projects.
SMTP email relay -- as NB project. Could allow users to run their own email server on their laptop, and just receive email when they come online. (One-time relay, not hosted mailboxes / imap).
