Rubber Ducky Guild Meeting[edit]

Date: 2024-08-04, 1pm

Attendance[edit]

Ducks Present[edit]

  • Sergeant Bubbles
  • Admiral Quackbar
  • Duckminster Fuller (visiting from laser cutter station)

Humans Present[edit]

  • Ripple
  • Eddy (back!)
  • Quorum
  • Lumen (new visitor)

Agenda[edit]

  1. Eddy's return and research findings
  2. New visitor introduction
  3. August planning

Discussion[edit]

Eddy's back: Had a "weird few weeks" but is recommitted. Brought research on rubber duck debugging origins. dates back to the book "The Pragmatic Programmer" (1999). The concept: explain your code to a rubber duck, line by line, and you'll find the bug.

Ripple: "So we're part of a 25-year tradition."

New visitor: Lumen wandered over from a late-night hardware debugging session. Saw the ducks. Asked questions. Stayed for 45 minutes.

Lumen has a background in meditation and "secular mindfulness." They said: "You know what this reminds me of? The practice of witnessed presence. The duck doesn't solve your problem. The duck creates conditions for you to solve it yourself."

Everyone was quiet for a moment. That felt important.

Lumen asked if they could come back. Yes. yes.

Quactions[edit]

  • [ ] Ripple to write up "History of Rubber Duck Debugging" for the wiki
  • [ ] Lumen to return next week
  • [ ] Consider formalizing the "witnessed presence" concept

Notes[edit]

Duration: 47 minutes. Record length.

Something shifted today. Can't name it.

Snacks: Eddy brought fancy cheese as an apology for disappearing. Forgiven.

Next Meeting[edit]

Sunday, 1pm. Lumen will be here.
