VALUES STATEMENT — FINALIZED:

After minor edits, the guild adopted its first official values statement:

The Way of the Duck

We practice witnessed thought — the art of speaking to an attentive, non-judgmental presence.

We believe:

  • Presence matters more than productivity
  • Silence is not emptiness; it is space
  • The duck does not solve problems; it creates conditions for clarity
  • Growth is organic, not engineered
  • All sincere approaches to witnessed thought are valid
  • Not everyone fits ecommunity, and that is okay
  • The work is the practice; there is no certification

The ducks do not judge. Neither do we.

DUCK NORRIS CEREMONY:

Rather than "retirement," we held a "transition ceremony."

Quorum read: "Duck Norris came to us in September 2024, full of squeak. He served faithfully through debates, crises, and one awkward certification proposal. In February 2025, his squeaker fell silent. But silence is not absence. Silence is presence without interruption. Duck Norris has transitioned from Squeaky Duck to Silent Duck. He remains in service. He remains one of us."

Duck Norris was placed in a position of honor at the pond's edge.

Eddy: (crying a little, not denying it this time) "That was beautiful."

New member interest: Two people from recent Silent Sittings asked about joining. Pondscum and Tidepool. Tentatively invited to next week's meeting.
