Discussion[edit]

Holiday weekend:

Small turnout. Stillwater and Pondscum both out of town. America stuff.

🚨 POOL CRISIS:

Water level: critically low. Ripple refilled it Thursday. It's half-empty again. FOUR DAYS.

Ripple: "I'm done pretending this is normal. Someone is draining our pond."

Lumen: "Or drinking from it. Repeatedly."

Eddy: "Who drinks THIS MUCH from a duck pond? That's like... multiple people. Or one very hydrated person."

Quorum: "I asked around. Nobody's seen anything. But nobody's watching, either."

THE CAMERA QUESTION:

Flotsam raised it again. More forcefully this time.

Flotsam: "Look, I know we said no cameras. But this is getting ridiculous. We could put a small one by the shed, just pointed at the pool. Time-lapse. Nothing invasive."

Lumen: "That's surveillance. At a hackerspace. Of a duck pond. Do you hear how that sounds?"

Flotsam: "I hear how SOMEONE IS STEALING OUR WATER sounds!"

Ripple: "Stealing water is a strong phrase—"

Flotsam: "What would you call it?"

Eddy: "This is exactly the kind of stress the ducks don't need."

Quorum: (quietly) "What if it's not a person? What if there's a leak?"

Everyone stopped.

Quorum: "I looked at the base earlier. There might be a small tear. Near where the Synthwave cart hit it at the anniversary."

Ripple: "...oh."

Lumen: "That was over a month ago. Wouldn't we have noticed?"

Quorum: "Small leak. Slow drain. Hot weather speeds evaporation. It compounds."

Quorum showed everyone the tear. Tiny. Hard to see. Inconclusive.

Flotsam: "So maybe we've been blaming people for nothing?"

Lumen: "Maybe. Or there's a leak AND someone's drinking. We don't know."

Tension remained. Camera question tabled—but barely.

Eddy: "Can someone just... fix the pool? And then we'll know?"

Quorum: "Ken was around last month. He fixes things. I'll ask him."

Ripple: "Please. Before we tear ourselves apart over this."

Ducks floated silently. They did not take sides. (They never do.)

Daniel:

Daniel was at the 3D printing station. Flotsam knows him.

Flotsam: "Daniel, come meet the duck people."

Daniel: Enthusiastic. Works in tech. Loves making things.

Daniel: "I've seen your ducks around. They're great. Have you ever thought about 3D printing custom ones?"

Ripple: "...no?"

Daniel: "I could prototype something. Any design you want. Noisebridge colors maybe?"

Polite interest. Noncommittal response. Daniel seems nice but we have real ducks already.
