Discussion[edit]

WHY ZODA IS HERE:

Last week's meeting got heated. Eddy and Tidepool had words. Ripple asked Zoda — experienced NB conflict moderator — to facilitate today.

THE 3D DUCK DEBATE:

Zoda: "I'm going to ask each person to speak without interruption. Then we'll find common ground."

AGAINST 3D ducks:

  • Eddy: "This is the RUBBER Ducky Guild. Material is identity."
  • Ripple: "The Orthodox position exists for a reason. We can't just accept any plastic thing."
  • Flotsam: "Virginia Wool has a handmade scarf. Craft matters."

FOR 3D ducks (or at least open to):

  • Tidepool: "We're a hackerspace. 3D printing IS our culture."
  • Pondscum: "The Expansionist position says any object can witness."
  • Stillwater: "Maybe they could be... auxiliary? Not primary ducks but available?"

NEUTRAL:

  • Lumen: "I don't think this needs to be all-or-nothing."
  • Quorum: "What if we trial one? See how it's used?"

Daniel: "I just wanted to help. I didn't mean to cause drama."

Zoda's facilitation: "It sounds like the core question is: what makes a duck a Duck? And whether material or function matters more."

RESOLUTION:

  • 3D ducks NOT added to official roster
  • But: one 3D duck (blue) placed in maker space as "experimental auxiliary"
  • Revisit in 3 months with usage data
  • Daniel thanked for innovation spirit

Eddy: "I can live with that."

Tidepool: "Same."

(They shook hands. Progress.)

Pool maintenance:

Pool has slow leak. Ken (NB handyman) offered to patch it. Scheduled for next week.

Duck Norris anniversary:

One year since squeaker failure. Moment of silence observed. He remains in silent service.

Notes[edit]

Zoda handled it beautifully. We should have outside moderators more often.
