Ripple brings cookies. pond is cold but we bundle up. feels quiet. most people already left for CCC.

whos already gone

Elan, Loren, Jet, Anh, Chris all left yesterday. they took Admiral Quackbar and Duckminster Fuller with them.

  • Quorum: did they make their flight?
  • Lumen: yeah Loren texted from SFO. Admiral Quackbar got through TSA with no issues apparently
  • Ripple: Fuller was excited about the spatial reasoning challenge of overhead bins

coverage plan

dec 29 meeting will happen with skeleton crew. Quorum volunteers to moderate. Stillwater will take notes.

Flotsam will check on the ducks daily while folks are away.

unexpected visitor

about 20 minutes into the meeting someone new arrives. introduces themselves as Dr Mallard.

  • Dr Mallard: sorry to interrupt. i heard about your rubber duck guild. im a methodology consultant. i study optimal debugging practices
  • Ripple: oh. hi. were actually wrapping up
  • Dr Mallard: i wont take long. i just wanted to observe your setup. (looking around the pond) this is fascinating. how long have you had this duck? (gesturing to Null Pointer)
  • Quorum: null pointer? about a year
  • Dr Mallard: remarkable. i can tell hes seen things. deep debugging sessions. complex problems. the energy is strong
  • Stillwater: the... energy?
  • Dr Mallard: every duck accumulates experience. this one has real depth. most spaces dont appreciate what they have

everyone kind of nods politely.

  • Dr Mallard: id love to spend time with him while youre away. observe his consultation patterns. i think theres real potential here
  • Ripple: sure i guess? we dont really... supervise duck usage
  • Dr Mallard: excellent. ill stop by this week. maybe offer some guidance to people who use him
  • Flotsam: guidance?
  • Dr Mallard: optimization. most people dont know how to properly consult a duck with this level of experience

they leave after a few more minutes of observing the pond.

  • Lumen: that was weird
  • Quorum: methodology consultant?
  • Ripple: probably harmless. lots of people are interested in rubber duck debugging
