Protecting Your Neck with Deviant Ollam
WHAT: Physical/hardware security workshop/ clinic
WHEN: Saturday March 4th, 2023
There's an often-repeated and often-ridiculed phrase: "Locks are only for keeping honest people honest."
Deviant Ollam understands this phrase, but also kind of hates this phrase.
Having spent decades now as a locksmith, safe technician, and covert entry specialist, Deviant has worked for years to educate the public on the way locks truly work, not how they merely appear to function. In this workshop, we invite you to see the world around us not through unquestioning civilian eyes but rather through the eyes of a professional thief, an entry specialist, someone with the tools and skills to quickly and silently attack and subvert most of the physical and electronic security hardware that we use everyday in both residential and commercial environments. Learn how first responders can gain rapid entry to large and small buildings in emergencies. Learn how stalkers or harassers might seek to bypass barriers using tips they pick up on YouTube. Learn how to evaluate and make best use of the most popular and widely available locks and tools on the market today... whether that best use entails employing them for your defense or subverting them for your own critical purposes. A variety of tools locks and other hardware will be displayed so that attendees can get a hands-on feel for much of what is being described and shown in the lecture slides and videos. Questions and curious minds encouraged. Please refrain from trying to pick the lock on the venue's front door... before, during, or after class.
As a practical measure, for Covid and security reasons they need to limit access to the space for 3 hours, from 3 to 6 PM on Sat, March 4th
