Wargaming at Noisebridge[edit]

Noisebridge has lots of powerful fabrication machines including 3D Printing great for printing miniatures and terrain and a laser ideal for cutting large wood and acrylic assemblies like MDF wood terrain, building board game box organizers, etc.

Save money on wargame minis with 3D printing[edit]

You can save a lot of money by using 3D Printing to make your own custom proxy models and have more artistic freedom at the expense of fragility (resin printing) or detail (FDM plastic printing).

Popular Wargames[edit]

Here are a few of the wargames that are popular enough that you can probably find people and events to play regularly at hobbying shops.

Games Workshop Games =[edit]

GW is the dominant wargaming company and their models and games are expensive but very very popular.

Warhammer 40,000[edit]

The biggest mid-scale wargame with battles of 25-250 or so models divided into units on each side.

Kill Team[edit]

A smaller scale squad unit tactics game set in the 40K universe with 5-12 models per side. You can reuse models from Kill Team for 40K.

Legionis Imperialis[edit]

The truly massive epic battle game in 40K universe with 8-10mm scale troops (40K and Kill Team are 28-32mm).

  • Lets you model huge cityscapes and massive armies with many titanic units.
  • Horus Heresy setting lacks support for non-Imperial/Chaos factions but community NetEpic rules and widely available STL files you can print provide here.

Warhammer Old World[edit]

The modern version of Warhammer Fantasy (you can add support for older Fantasy models and factions with community rules).

Star Wars Games[edit]

  • Legion: infantry battles.
  • Armada: Capital ship battles.
  • XWing: Fighter dogfight battles.

Warlord Games[edit]

  • Bolt Action: Historical WW2 battles.
  • Konflikt 47: Weird pulp alternate history battles where WW2 turned into something out of Marvel's Hydra supersoldier and superwizard science fantasy hybrid. Mostly compatible with Bolt Action models and rules, but now featuring giant spider robots, tesla cannons and super soldiers with power armor and jetpacks fighting vampires and zombies.

Indie Wargames[edit]

Smaller companies rising in popularity.

One Page Rules[edit]

One Page Rules is the most open and 3D printing friendly miniature wargame family, with games of all scales and flavors.

  • Grimdark Future: Large army battles.
  • Grimdark Firefight: Small team battles.
  • Grimdark Epic: Massive large-scale 8-10mm battles.
  • Grimdark Fleet: Massive spaceship fleet battles.
